silly question that someone could answer faster than research (that would confuse me). How many of each position a) plays in a game, and b) do you need, minimum? I know you have/need/play 1 kicker and 1 punter. Other then that, I don't know. Like, are there double-up positions (like 2 RGs, or 2 LEs or whatever - cause you know in hockey you have defencemen, but 2 play at once...that kind of thing...) It would be better to have at least 2 of each position, in QB you may want 3, I like to have at least 4 DT's.

As for playing needs, it all depends on the formation. So, tell me a formation on offense or defense, I'll tell ya what you need.

And who should be playing at those positions? Sorry if I seem completely out of the loop, but as much as I enjoy watching some football I am literally a novice at knowing positions and importance and whatnot.
I get most of the rules of the game, just have no idea how they actually set up to play. My hometown banned it because a kid broke his neck playing.

Ok Mikey, that is a soccer formation, not a football defense scheme

I'm trying to establish a 4-3 defense, which is 4 men on the d-line, and 3 outside linebackers.

So only seven men are on the field at a time? Which positions are offense and which are defense?

There are 11 guys on the field This is based on the I Formation on Offense, and a basic 4-3 defense Offense 1 QB 1 FB 1 HB 2 OT (L,R) 2 OG (L,R) 1 C 1 TE (L or R) 1 WR (1L 1R, 2L, or 2R) Defense 2 DE (L, R) 2 DT (Between DEs) 2 OLB (L,R) 2 MLB (Between OLB's) 1 FS 1 SS 2 CB

Here's the visual of the I Formation (Red) and the 4-3 Defense On offense, the main wide reciever is on the left side, and your other wide reciever is in a "slot" position, where he can have a running start. Usually that slot position is for a WR that has a better route running ability. On defense, you can see the 4-3 by simply seeing 4 right in front of the O-line and 3 behind the d-line. Sorry if I got all teacher on you. Thought you'd like to know a little bit about these formations.

I will run my own offence.. where everyone runs to the end zone and we just toss the ball way up... and i like to call this formation the jump ball formation.
